Spencer Robson - Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle

by Gill Williams - 20:15 on 24 June 2016

Not a great day today. As soon as I got over the Kessock bridge it started raining. The cycle path ran along side the A9 so it was a case of head down and peddle. Carried on past Invergordon and stopped for pictures at the Glenmorangie distillery. No time to go in (that hurt!!) so I pressed on north towards Golspie. This is when I ran into a northerly wind and everything slowed down. Going up one particular hill my head was down and I was swearing a lot with the pain when at the top of the hill there was a pub, thank God, Sea Bass, salad and a pint of best later I was ready for anything. 5 minutes later I was swearing again... Bloody hills....Bloody wind. Still, could be worse, at least there were no midges!!! I remember on the last bike tour Nick used to always say before tackling any hill "I hate hills I do, I bleedin hate em" I was thinking about that today and I had to laugh, cheers Nick. Now in a great B&B in Helmsdale and resting up before the final push in the morning. Hope that wind changes direction so I can have an easy 53mile run in to the finish but it is what it is. Finish line here I come😀
