Spencer Robson - Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle
by Gill Williams - 06:56 on 26 June 2016
Started the day with a big hill just north of Helmsdale. There are two final barriers to completing the ride in this part of the country, this hill is one of them and the other one.. another bloody hill of course, lies eight miles up the road. I did give it a little thought about how I would tackle them but then I thought sod it and just cycled up them both in the same way.. Head down listening to Pink Floyd... Not sure how that works, oh well
The rest of the ride today was through some very baron and moody landscape until about two miles before John O Groat's when the sun came out right on time, strange I know but true.
I basically coasted in the last mile not really wanting the adventure to end and thinking about all the people I'd talked to and all the places I'd seen.
If anyone is thinking of doing this ride I can honestly say you will go through every emotion known as things are suddenly thrown at you that you never expected. You will cycle through towns and villages that you would never see in a car. It's hard to say but you kind of get to know yourself better and when it's all over you will have a big big smile on your face😀
Another plus is that you can eat whenever and whatever you like. In fact it is essential to stuff your face all the time and when you eventually pass the finish line you would have lost a shed load of weight. Maybe there's a new diet book deal in there somewhere!
Before I end my short lived blogging career I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all those kind people who have made a donation to this great cause. I can guarantee every penny will be put to work. I have been lucky enough to visit the orphanage in Thailand and have seen children who's lives have literally been saved and given a chance to grow up in a safe and loving environment.
Big thanks also for all the comments and jokes, they kept me going and gave me a good laugh.
Thanks again to John and Jenny, Jane and Chris who put me up and put up with me, a big thanks to Jack and Jane for looking after and taking my bike to Lands End.
Graham from The Therapy Studio for helping big time with my fitness and invaluable advise on nutrition
Gill and Ian for posting my blogs (sorry must have been a pain)
And finally Gail and Amy for doing all the ground work and admin and putting up with all my moaning😎
Happy and safe cycling
