Eight years ago, Rotjana had a double mastectomy following the discovery of breast cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy she went into remission and enjoyed life again. Unfortunately three years ago she discovered that she had secondary breast cancer in her pelvis bone. Over the past three years she has fought bravely and with dignity, however the cancer spread to nearly every bone in her body and following a lengthy and painful battle, heartbreakingly so she passed away on Christmas Eve 2017.
On the 2nd April Rotjana's family, orphanage staff and children and guests from around the world celebrated her life on the 100th day following her death. We attended the ceremony which was a moving and fitting tribute to this amazing lady and there was also an unveiling of a statue to commemorate her for ever.
Baan Than Namchai will now be headed up by Game, 26 years old and an original Tsunami orphan. Game has a law degree and is currently studying Business Studies. This is an enormaous responsibility for such a young person to bear however he is bright, compassionate, fair and level headed and will lead his staff into the next stage of life at the orphanage. Rotjanas Hands will do everything possible to ensure that he has as much support as possible to lessen the load and to make his job easier.
